IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER THE DAY BEFORE YOUR NAATI CCL EXAM
Getting ready for the NAATI CCL can be overwhelming, particularly on the day before the test. While many students spend hours cramming at the last minute, it’s more important to use this time to build confidence, stay calm, and prepare mentally, rather than engaging in intense practice.
Do not over-study:
Avoid the following on the day before your exam:
- Learning unfamiliar vocabulary
- Altering your note-taking method
- Experimenting with new techniques
- Attempting 5–6 complete mock tests
Your mind needs consistency and calm before the test.
Instead, focus on:
- Reviewing your existing symbols
- Practicing with one or two light dialogues
- Refreshing common terminology
Review Your Own Note-Taking Symbols:
Set aside 15–20 minutes to go over your abbreviations, arrows and symbols, numbers, negatives, and important medical or legal terms. The goal is to be able to recall them instantly during the exam.
Get Your Technical Setup Ready (Crucial)
As NAATI CCL is online exam, make sure to:
- Check your laptop charger, internet connection, mic, quiet environment, and browser or system requirements.
- Have your ID, sheets, and pens close at hand. Preparing these in advance helps you avoid any last-minute stress.
Quality Sleep Matters More Than Extra Practice:
Lack of rest can significantly reduce your memory, listening skills, and interpreting performance. Make sure you have a good dinner, stay hydrated, and get 7–8 hours of sleep.
If You miss something in the exam → Keep Going
Adopting this mindset is crucial. If you miss a word:
- Don’t panic
- Don’t get stuck or hesitate
- Stay focused and continue listening.
- Missing a single word rarely causes you to fail—but panicking can do so.
Keep the Real Objective in Mind
The exam assesses your ability to convey meaning, maintain accuracy, ensure fluency, and provide completeness. It does not require a perfect accent, sophisticated vocabulary, or complex English. Clear and correct responses are more valuable than advanced but incorrect ones.
